Homemade Cinnamon Rolls
Hi All,
I’m so excited to share this recipe with all of you. For me, cinnamon rolls are definitely a treat reserved for the mall and the airport. So, when I found out how easy it was to make these at home; I wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing.
This was my first attempt, so please feel free to add any suggestions I the comments.
Pro tips:
You may not need to use all of the filling mixture, or icing.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 table spoon of cinnamon
2 cups of flour
1 packet of highly active yeast
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1 stick of butter
1/2 cup of milk
1/3 cup of water
1 cup of powdered sugar
Instructions:
Add 1 packet of yeast to 1/3 cup of room temperature water. Cover with plastic wrap and the mixture to sit for about 5 minutes or until it begins to bubble.
In a separate bowl, stir together 1 cup of the flour, sugar, salt, 1/3 stick of the butter and 1/4 cup of the milk. Once the yeast has bubbled. Add the yeast mixture to the bowl. Mix well and gradually add in the remaining cup of flour.
Kneed the dough. If the dough continues to stick to your fingers, add more flour in small (1-2 table spoon) increments until the dough is no longer sticking to your hands.
Allow the dough to rise in a bowl covered with plastic wrap for about 30 minutes.
To make the filling, add 1/3 cup of butter and the sugars into a bowl and mix well.
When the dough has risen, roll it out into a smooth, floured surface, about 10x12 inches. Spread the mixture evenly into the dough (you may not need the whole mixture).
Roll the dough and slice evenly.
Bake for approximately 20 minutes at 350 degrees F or until golden brown.
To make the icing, mix 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1/3 stick of butter, 1 tea spoon of vanilla and 2-3 table spoons of milk. Add more milk or powdered sugar to obtain the consistency you desire.
Allow the cinnamon rolls to cool slightly before evenly spreading the icing.
Enjoy! :)
