Best Ice cream Spots in the Boston Area

Hey all,

Every season is ice cream season for me, but if there was ever an official ice cream season” it would be summer. Since moving to Boston last year, I had the opportunity to visit some ice cream shops in the city and the surrounding areas. I am so happy to share the list with you all. Although this list is not ranked in terms of my favorites, I hope it will serve as a guide when deciding where to get some good scoops whether you live in town or are visiting.

1.     Lizzy’s Ice cream

 29 Church St, Cambridge, MA 02138;  (617) 354-2911; https://lizzysicecream.com/

Lizzy’s was the first ice cream place I tried when I moved here and so the first on this list. I had the homemade cookies and cream ice cream.

2.     Slush King in East Boston

211 Bennington St, East Boston, MA 02128; (617) 561-7050; https://slushking.com/catering/

So, a slushy may not qualify as ice cream, but it is a nice cold treat perfect for a hot summer day. Pictured is the mango slushie. I’ve also tried the strawberry. I haven’t decided which is my favorite, but I’d bet anything you get from here is a sure thing.

3.     Twist N’ Shake

82 Revere Beach Blvd, Revere, MA 0215; (781) 286-2900; https://twistnshake.com/

Heading to the beach? Be sure to check out Twist N’ Shake in Revere. Don’t let the long lines deter you, the ice cream is worth the wait. Pictured is a brownie sundae with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, a heaping of whipped cream, topped off with cherries.

4.     Frozen Hoagies

534 Main St, Winchester, MA 01890; (617) 620-6810; frozenhoagies.com

Speaking of Revere Beach… I learned it is the nation’s oldest public beach. Every year they have a sandcastle competition. Last year I went and was introduced to Frozen Hoagies, where you could make your own ice cream sandwich combination. I had the confetti cookie and strawberry ice cream combo. They are in Winchester, MA, but have a pink ice cream truck. How cool is that?!?

5.     Toscanini’s Ice Cream

159 First St, Cambridge, MA 02139; (617) 491-5877; https://www.tosci.com/

I have had both Toscanini’s ice cream cake as well as the ice cream, which were both a hit. Pictured is the French Vanilla with sprinkles. I also recommend the B3 ice cream.

6.     Honeycomb Creamery

1702 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138; (617) 714-3983;

Honeycomb Creamery is worth the trip to Cambridge. I had the smore’s ice cream with hot fudge and a toasted marshmallow. Yummy!

7.     Taiyaki Boston

 119 Seaport Blvd Suite B, Boston, MA 02210; (617) 531-3514; https://taiyakinyc.com/

The first time I had ice cream from Taiyaki was in NYC, from both the Manhattan and Brooklyn locations. Different cities, same charm. This infamous fish-shaped cone was filled with vanilla ice-cream and topped with chocolate cookie crumbles, caramel syrup, and a cookie.

8.     Crazy Good Kitchen

268 Newbury St, Boston, MA 02116; (617) 936-4359; crazygoodkitchen.com

Crazy good Kitchen is a Burger Spot (a good one at that), but do not sleep on the milkshakes. I had the Oreo milkshake with chocolate syrup and whipped cream.

9.     J.P. Licks

173 Newbury St, Boston, MA 02116; (857) 449-0334; https://jplicks.com/

A local favorite, there is no way I can have a list of the best ice cream in Boston and not include J.P licks. Pictured is the strawberry ice cream, though I also enjoy the brownie batter as well.

10.  Amorino Boston

Last, but certainly not least is Amorino Boston. This gelato shop not only serves up some great treats, but the presentation is on point. How cute is this hazelnut-chocolate flower cone?!?

So there you have it… 10 great spots to get ice cream in and around Boston. I look forward to hearing from you. What are your favorite ice cream spots?

All the best,

Marissa
