Fit-ish During the Pandemic Shutdown
Hey Guys,
As promised, I am sharing some of the ways I have been trying to stay healthy during this shutdown. I admit, its been difficult not having unlimited gym access. To be honest, I have been winging it and learning to adapt as the days go on, but I hope this helps!
1. Stay Hydrated!
Don’t underestimate the benefits to drinking lots of water. For one, my skin is certainly thanking me for it. Now more than ever, it is important to stay hydrated. Challenge yourself to drink more daily by monitoring your intake and consuming a little more each day. It may also help to set reminders or get an app that reminds you to drink water often. Before you know it, you’ll be reaching or even exceeding your consumption goals.
2. Choose your snacks wisely
Snacking is inevitable… especially during this season. With all of this extra time to quite literally Netflix & Chill it is all too easy to find your self at the bottom of yet another bag of chips. And to be honest, that’s OK… sometimes. Just be sure to add healthier options (like fruits and veggies) to your snack line up. I have been baking cookies and muffins more than usual. But, when I’m online, watching TV, or playing with Legos (because that’s a thing with me right now – don’t judge) I try to keep grapes, apple slices or whole grain crackers close to deter me from going to the kitchen for less healthy options.
3. Stay Active
Virtual dance party anyone? With all of these Zoom parties, online DJ’s, performances and Tick Tock dances, I have been dancing to the beat of my own drum (privately). There’s no judgment, pressure and it has been a great way to break a sweat and uplift my spirits during this time. I have also been taking advantage of the virtual workouts offered online. Having instruction and a set time to log on to work out has been great discipline for me. It has also been great to connect with others who are trying to maintain their fitness goals during this time.
4. Get Some Fresh Air
Now don’t get me wrong, definitely listen to your state’s leadership on this one. Wear facemasks and practice social distancing measures, such as staying 6 feet away from others. I for one have spent a great deal of time indoors. There have been several days when I have not set a foot outside. However, running has been apart of my life, to not only stay in shape, but also it has allowed me to decompress and clear my head. So when I do go out for runs, I keep my distance, even if it means I have to zig-zag a bit. I also recognize it is more difficult for me to breath with the mask on, so I either run for less time or take breaks to compensate – and that’s OK. I have also been running up and down the steps (outside), and jumping in place, as I’ve been meaning to get a jump rope.
So there you have, a few simple steps I’ve been taking to stay in shape-ish during this time. There is certainly comfort in knowing I’m not alone in this. I see others outside doing jumping jacks, burpies and riding bikes. I also take no offense when people make weird maneuverers to avoid me in the street, as I am doing the same. We are all still figuring this out and we will get through this together!
Be Safe,
Marissa
